Inspirational - Disney Couture

I don't normally do back to back posts in the same week but these images just needed to be shared. Back in December Harrod's department store released some beautiful concept illustrations for their Christmas window displays featuring Disney Princesses in couture gowns from an assortment of A-List designers (including personal idol, the Marchesa sisters). The final product was absolutely stunning, much unlike the controversial Barney's Disney marketing campaign, but I won't get into that.

Now they've released a series of photographs featuring live models posing as the famous damsels and they're absolutely stunning. Every little girl's dream come true.

Although Princess Jasmine has been my long time favourite Princess I'm actually most disappointed with this adaptation. Wholly because it diverts so much from her original costume, one I wore so proudly almost every Halloween as a child. Unlike the others, if you were to take this image out of context it would be recognizable as inspired by Princess Jasmine

“Oh dire, dreadful death, you drag your heels. Why dawdle and draw back? You drown my heart.”

The images from the photoshoot provided for us from Blanche MacDonald Centre of our grad collections were finally released this week. I am absolutely in love with these gorgeous shots by photographer and Blanche MacDonald instructor Matthew Burditt featuring up-and-coming models James at Rad Kids and Ripley Freedom at Liz Bell Agency.

My only regret is that the chainmail piece of my collection wasn't ready for this shoot but I think the stylist did a lovely job of maintaining my aesthetic with a few simple accessories, giving the gown a very late 20s/early 30s vibe.

Jacket also featured here by designer Nikita Coles

And of course the fabulous image featured on the cover of the show program. The shots were done on medium format film - natural light and no post-processing. Another update with more current work coming soon.

Détaché

Detachable collar: Also called a false-collar. A collar made as a separate accessory to be worn with a band-collared shirt (currently worn styles are turndown, tab, and dog collars; as well as historical styles such as Imperial or Gladstone).

This is one of my favourite new trends. They're absolutely delightful, whether worn as necklace center piece or used to change up a crew-neck sweater or shirt. A false-collar is the perfect interchangeable accessory.

Whether your style is soft and delicate...

I'm obsessed with the vintage 1960s flair of the peter pan collar.

or a little more edgy...

There's one to compliment any style and elevate any outfit. Can't find a style you like? It's the most fabulously easy DIY project. Recently, I volunteered for the JennyFleur Loves… & Hive Mind Millinery Fashion Show here in Vancouver which showcased Jennyfleur Loves… an amazing local boutique which collects unique & fashion forward pieces from all over and featured Hive Mind Millinery hats. Dressing the models I couldn't help but notice some beautiful detached collars which combined my love of them with my current obsession of metal in fashion.

It didn't take me long to decide I needed one in my own wardrobe. Having been a little strapped for cash lately I decided to make my own. I found some great cream colored lace weight yarn in my stash, this super cute knitting pattern and voila! I added a vintage button from my collection to complete the piece.

It hasn't exactly been sweater weather here in Vancouver but I'm too impatient to wait for fall so I've been pairing it with a button down shirt...

This is my awkward some-one-else-is-taking-my-photo face

Now I'm off to draft 1/4 scale patterns & do design homework. I'm going to try and train myself to do a weekly post every Saturday. We'll see if I can stick to it!

Bibian Blue F/W 2011

Some fabulous photos from this seasons collection by Bibian Blue I just had to share. The whole line has a very costume and steampunk feel to it. Not to mention the obvious historical influences.
J'ADORE.

The more I look at this collection and past ones from this amazing designer out of Barcelona the more I believe I've found a new favorite designer and an answer to Lisa's question "Who do you want your clothes to hang with?"
